Stainless Steels Hardened with Precipitation/ Precipitation Hardened (PH)

Precipitation-hardened stainless steels, also referred to as “age-hardened stainless steels,” are a type of stainless steel that mainly contains chromium and nickel, and combines the properties of both in its structure, between martensitic and austenitic grades.

As martensitic stainless steels can gain high strength by heat treatment, they also have corrosion resistance like austenitic grades. Hardening is the use of one or more of the alloying elements such as copper, aluminium, titanium, niobium and molybdenum.

provided by the addition. The most widely known grade in this group is 17-4 PH. This grade is also referred to as 630. This quality, which takes its name from its 17% chromium and 4% nickel content, also contains 4% copper and 0.3% niobium.
